About Content Culture & the SEO Content specialist who founded it

Content Culture was founded by award-winning journalist, published author and SEO content specialist Ramona Depares. Using the services of a collective of the best SEO writers available in Malta, it introduces a new approach to SEO content writing services to the market, by focusing on a culture of digital content that combines user engagement with SEO best practices.

Ramona brings to the table decades of experience as a content writer engaging readers. A warranted lawyer, she left the practice so as to focus on her first love, writing and journalism. She started her writing career with The Times of Malta, climbing the rungs from reporter to features editor, cultural editor, magazine editor and eventually Head of News.

Throughout her journalistic career she received two journalism awards from the Institute for Maltese Journalists – Award for Opinion Writer of the year in 2014 and Award for Cultural Journalism in 2016. Under her editorship, the monthly lifestyle Sunday Circle magazine was consistently voted the Maltese readers’ favourite in the independently-run MISCO media survey.

Becoming an SEO content specialist
- Ramona’s journey

After years working in mainstream journalism, in 2018 Ramona decided to specialise in digital content and SEO content writing. She threw herself deep into the worlds of iGaming, fintech and blockchain – the three main industries where SEO content specialists were using ground-breaking approaches to ensure that their web copy ranked within the top 5 on Google.

Ramona built her knowledge of SEO best practices from the ground up, taking up entry level content writer positions so as to build a solid knowledge base. She rose the ranks steadily, heading the content teams of various iGaming companies and developing a specialised content strategy approach that invariably saw client pages solidify their Google ranking.

In the past years, Ramona has offered SEO content writing services to the top international players within digital content, affiliate marketing and SAAS. She is responsible for many of the highest-ranking pages on the likes of Time2Play, Top10 Casino Sites, Casinos.org, Gambling.com, CashToCode, The Lost Gamer and Gaming Gadgets among others. She has also created web content for operators and game providers like Pragmatic Play, Air Dice and SpinFever Casino.

Today, Ramona puts her expertise to good use by offering a collective of SEO writer services through Content Culture, supplying a number of clients within the gaming, fintech and blockchain industries with a content strategy that works.

SEO Content - Journalism, Lifestyle, Corporate

Ramona has gathered together a team of the best freelance content writers in Malta  to service the corporate, journalism and media industry. As the shift from print towards digital content is almost complete, many media houses struggle to find writers and journalists who can create an engaging story that incorporates digital and SEO best practices. To this end, Ramona heads a collective of experienced writers to service magazines and digital portals.

Through Content Culture, Ramona supplies editorial services to the Times of Malta’s lifestyle section, which incorporates the flagship magazines Sunday Circle, Pink, Child and Places. She edits Malta’s premier cultural magazine, Encore Arts & Culture and is a regular contributor to corporate news websites like WhosWho.mt and MaltaCEOs.mt, run by Content House.

Ramona is also one of the few cultural and food critics on the island, which she details on her lifestyle website RamonaDepares.com. She is a regular speaker at workshops and events organised by national entities, such as Arts Council Malta.

Best-selling, published author

Ramona is the author of three best-selling books, two of which are published under the Merlin Publishers imprint and the third one under the MGRM imprint.

Beltin: Stejjer Minn Nies Minsija, 2019: Written in Maltese, this publication has achieved iconic status especially among those who live in Valletta. The 128-pager is a collection of semi auto-biographical anecdotes detailing life in Malta’s capital city throughout the 80s and 90s, before gentrification started pushing out the original community. It has been lauded for its authenticity and for documenting an aspect of Maltese lifestyle that is now lost. You can watch Ramona being interviewed about this by the National Book Council here.

The Patient in Hospital Zero, 2020: A departure from her first book, the book showcases Ramona’s versatility and her mastery of the English language. The book presents a collection of short stories based in urban magic and magical realism, with a touch of science-fiction.

Katya: Easy on the Tonic, 2022: This authorised biography celebrates the life of Katya Saunders, one of Malta’s first openly-transgender women. Ramona here demonstrates once again her journalistic chops with flawless research that manages to solve several mysteries that had remained unanswered even after Katya’s passing.

Content Culture - mentoring Malta’s top content writers

Throughout these past 20 odd years, Ramona has successfully headed various content teams across different industries. A hands-on manager, she believes in leading by doing, and that the best way to teach someone is to show them, guide them and allow them to do it themselves.

Her years in senior management roles at companies like The Times of Malta and SiGMA taught her the importance of mentoring a future generation and of ensuring the continuing passing of knowledge. She believes that the only way an aspiring content writer can learn is by writing.

To this end, she accepted the post of visiting lecturer at the University of Malta within the Department of Digital Arts and the Faculty of Media and Knowledge Sciences, where she lectures in Cultural Journalism, Creative Writing and Writing Project Management.

As a result of numerous discussions with students, Ramona realised that there is a big gap in the educational opportunities presented to those who wish to embark on a full-time career as SEO content writers in Malta – namely, there are very few opportunities for hands-on practice before finding a full-time job.

Thus, the Content Culture Mentoring programme was born. This is a fully-fledged programme where Ramona supports and mentors young students and professionals who need support bridging the gap between theory and practice. Supported by the Malta Enterprise Business First fund, the programme includes one-on-one tuition and a series of web tutorials which offer practical guidance towards becoming a successful Malta SEO

Content Culture - the team

Content Culture brings together the services of a collective of Maltese freelance writers. Some of these have been mentored by Ramona herself, while others are long-standing collaborators and top names within the industry.

The team espouses a spirit of collaboration that is far removed from the traditional employer-employee relationship that Maltese content writing agencies favour. This not only ensures complete ownership and pride in every single project undertaken, but also the ability for Content Culture to make use of the best specialist services every single time, rather than being tied to a rigid team that may not be the most well-suited to each specific project.

Projects are assigned by Ramona herself after assessing the clients’ needs and wishes and the topic and audience. If you’d like to learn more about how we can assist you in creating a content strategy that ranks every time, drop us a line .
